Managing Director, Legal Staffing
622 Third Avenue, 39th Floor New York, NY 10017 US
Job Description
Managing Director, Legal Staffing - NYC-based preferred
5+ years legal staffing or legal industry experience required
Hybrid role (3 days in-office)
Are you a legal staffing leader ready to rebuild, not just maintain?
Our client is the legal staffing division of a well-established, privately held staffing organization. Historically the company’s top-performing division, today, the opportunity is to replace lost revenue, rebuild private-sector growth, and modernize leadership.
We’re hiring a Managing Director to own P&L, protect remaining government revenue, and aggressively rebuild private legal staffing across law firms and corporate legal departments.
What You Will Do:
- Own full P&L responsibility for the legal staffing division
- Protect and stabilize remaining government contract revenue
- Rebuild and scale private-sector legal staffing (temp, temp-to-perm, direct hire)
- Drive new business development — not just service existing accounts
- Establish true sales leadership and pipeline discipline
- Hire, train, and develop a balanced sales + recruiting team
- Strengthen forecasting, revenue planning, and execution visibility
- Serve as a senior client-facing leader with law firms, corporate legal teams, and public-sector stakeholders
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven leader in legal staffing strongly preferred
- Experience pursuing or managing government contracts a major plus
- Track record of building private-sector legal staffing revenue
- Strong business builder — not purely delivery or recruiting focused
- Comfortable leading through change and resetting expectations
- Strategic thinker who can also sell, coach, and execute
Required Skills:
- Legal staffing operations and sales leadership
- P&L ownership and forecasting
- Government contract awareness and risk management
- Business development and enterprise relationship building
- Team building and performance management
Required Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 5+ years in legal staffing or legal industry
- 3+ years in leadership or management roles
- J.D. strongly preferred but not required
What You Get:
- Base salary $150K–$175K with very strong bonus upside
- Historically proven earnings into the high $300Ks
- Full ownership and creative control over growth strategy
- Enterprise legal relationships already in place and receptive buyers
The opportunity to rebuild a once-dominant business line inside a $100M+ organization
