CFO, Healthcare Staffing
Job Description
Our client is a Midwest-headquartered healthcare staffing firm supporting nursing homes, assisted living, and other care settings. The business runs on high-volume labor economics—hours worked, bill/pay rates, gross margin, mix, compliance, and disciplined cost control—requiring fast, reliable operating data and strong cash/working-capital management.
Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will lead finance and serve as a hands-on business partner to the executive team—translating operating drivers into clear actions that improve profitability, cash generation, and scalability. The role also oversees IT; technology strategy, systems execution, data governance, cybersecurity coordination, and IT investment prioritization. The CFO will be a key leader in preparing for and executing a future transaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance, Reporting & Controls
- Own GAAP reporting and a disciplined monthly close; strengthen controls and policies
- Lead accounting, FP&A, treasury, audit/tax/insurance/banking partner relationships
- Ensure multi-state tax/compliance implications are well managed
- FP&A, KPIs & Performance
- Run budget, reforecasting, long-range planning, and scenario modeling
- Build staffing-specific KPI rigor (hours, bill/pay, margin, client profitability, EBITDA, cash)
- Partner with Ops/Sales on pricing, forecasting, client economics, and growth decisions
Cash, Capital & Risk
- Drive liquidity visibility, cash forecasting, and working-capital discipline
- Improve A/R performance and manage credit/payment terms
- Oversee lender reporting/covenants (as applicable) and major risk programs (incl. workers’ comp)
- Strategic Leadership / Transaction Readiness
- Elevate quality-of-earnings mindset; prepare board/ownership-ready reporting
- Support diligence, management presentations, advisor coordination, and execution through close
IT Oversight
- Lead a 5-person IT team and set the annual roadmap
- Sponsor major implementations/integrations with tight governance, adoption, and ROI
- Oversee cybersecurity, business continuity, vendor management, and IT budgeting
Ideal Background:
- 12–15+ years of progressive finance leadership (CFO/VP Finance/divisional CFO)
- Strong GAAP reporting, FP&A, cash/working capital, controls, and business partnering
- Prefer staffing/healthcare services/professional services or another labor-intensive, multi-location model
- Comfortable with labor economics, pricing, gross margin, and client-level profitability
- Track record leading enterprise systems implementations; strong tech fluency (not hands-on engineering)
- Private equity/board/lender experience and transaction support strongly preferred
- CPA and/or MBA preferred
